Scenic Valentine Monkey

SUPPLIES:

Stamps - Stampin' Up! MONKEY BUSINESS & unknown sets

Inks - Distress Inks

Die Cuts - Tonic Studios Rococo Petite Layered Clouds #1661e

Other - googly eyes, blending brushes

TECHNIQUE:

1.  Stamp monkey on white cs with brown ink.  Use watercolor brush to add fur to belly, and color to cheeks.

2.  Stamp hearts 6 generations as shown above monkey.

3.  Die cut clouds and stamp sentiment onto one in brown ink.

4.  Blend green and blue inks onto card as shown.  Add grass pieces using the flat side of any tool by swiping it onto green inkpad.

5.   Adhere clouds and googly eyes as shown.

6.   Mount image panel to white cs panel with foam tape.

All set for Valentine's day?

What I'd love is a big ol' box of Godiva chocolate on the special day! But no - I've put myself on a bit of a healthier diet. Caught the flu the first of January, lost 10 pounds and decided to keep it off. Hoping to keep losing more by eating take-out just once a week and dessert only on the last weekend of the month.

TECHNIQUE: Technique Junkies Blocked Collage 02/09 newsletter

NOTES: I stamped the heart on a scrap of heavyweight white cardstock using the black ink and trimmed the banner out of it ~ I pop-dotted the banner in the center and tacked the ends down with double-stick tape ~ the flowers were all colored in with a tiny paintbrush and Radiant Rain in assorted shades so they are shimmery in real life ~ I highlighted the large roses with white gel pen ~ after all the red inking was done it looked too monotone and I wanted to tie in the black of the banner so I stamped the flourish repeatedly around the edges, and then sponged a little ink over just the very edges ~ I stopped at JoAnn's looking for some black rhinestones for the corners but not finding any I liked I picked up a pack of these gel look embellishments - I think they work

Celtic Pendant

This image is from the same Innovative Stamp Creations sheet as yesterday's card.

Card measures 5" x 6 1/2"

I started with a cream sheet of cs, and used a technique from TechniqueJunkies called Burnt Edges, applying Distress inks in the green family.

*tip*

Distress inks take longer to fully dry than regular dye inks so if you plan on embossing, let it sit about an hour.

I used Adirondack Ginger to stamp the heart, then colored it in with pencils. The coloring is more blended in real life than the scan shows. I punched the corners from cream cs with Old Paper applied to it, then stamped with the word stamp using Ginger ink, and edged with Distress Vintage Photo ink and a sponge. I added antiqued copper brads to the the corners as shown.

I laid a sheer pale green ribbon along the edges, attaching it with mini Glue Dots. I applied the corner panels over the these adding more Glue Dots on each point.

I adhered the main panel to a dark brown piece of cs. I used an exacto knife to cut a slice just inside the loop and wrap a coordinating ribbon thru and over the top and adhered it to the reverse with Glue Dots.

For the larger background panel, I pressed a Distress pad in Vintage Photo onto a craft sheet, spritzed the area with water, and pressed a cream piece of cs into it. I layered this to a brown panel and then adhered the main panel to it. I added the decorative square brad as shown.

Nope, you're not suffering Deja Vue, I actually did post this card awhile back, so if you'd like instructions just go to this page. I couldn't resist giving you a heart card on Valentine's day but I don't do many! HOWEVER! Keep an eye out - I'm working on one today using an Innovative Stamp Creations Celtic style heart from the same sheet, and a TechniqueJunkies technique called Burnt Edges and will try to post it late tonight or tomorrow....

Folkart Valentine

This is a quick and easy TechniqueJunkies background called Faux Fabric from the Dec 05 issue. It works great for those cards you want to make that only have one main image and you don't have any other images to coordinate.

The colors in this card utilize some of last years In-Colors from Stampin' Up! and are actually more muted irl.

To make the main image I lightly brayered Cranberry Crisp over white cs, then stamped the heart in black Staz-On. I used colored pencils to fill in the elements and highlighted the rope borders with a Sakura gelly roll pen. I covered the letters in Diamond Glaze using my needlenose applicator (buy one of these from Rockler - they are under $4 and never clog!!)

I tore a couple hearts out of Cranberry Crisp and Vintage Violet and layered these to the main image panel. I wanted to staple the ribbon on, but only had large ones so I cut two small slits as shown to thread the ribbon thru. I stamped the heart again on a scrap, trimmed out the flower, and pop-dotted it over the top of the ribbon "hanger".

An un-hearty Valentine

I felt like working with black on a red background, and I wanted to try out one of the techiniques in the current TJ newsletter, Burnished Embossing. The scanner didn't appreciate this color combo and left all sorts of echoes in the red area, so same old refrain >;o) looks better in real life.

I started by embossing the swirls and medallions in black, rubbing red ink over the embossing and then highlighting the medallions with a white gel pen, which of course turned pink. LOL

I stamped the butterfly on white cs, using black Versafine ink, and coloring it with pencils. I got the idea for off-setting it in the panel on Kimm's fabulous blog, Kimm's Daily Grace. Go check it out - she's got a fabulous ribbon treatment you will love!

Because I had embossed the swirls I used glossy black paper to punch the scallop-edge panel and the layer behind the red.

I stamped the sentiment with medallion using the black Versafine. The slim white panel has the large medallion stamped repeatedly with Stampin' Up!'s Real Red.

It's hard to see but the black is adhered to a white cardfront.
