EIFFEL IN THE CLOUDS

Hi friends!

Playing along with this ADDICTED TO CAS Challenge #312
(ends 7/24)

A fun prompt to work with from Addicted to CAS! The Eiffel Tower came to mind immediately - can’t get too much higher UP without a rocket 😁

THE PROCESS

To start: The Eiffel Tower was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with a very old, tired jar of metallic powder in an interesting shade. I really wanted that weathered feel vs. bright silver. It’s more silver than gold in person.

Clouds were stenciled on with a blending brush and a blue ink pad.

Sentiment was stamped in black ink.

To finish: The edges of the panel were trimmed off closely to get rid of the harsh build-up of blending lines. Panel was affixed to a heavyweight white card to help even out some warping.

Hole-less sequins in blingy white were glued on as shown to simulate bright glints of sunshine.

Paris Tiny Collage

Another card featuring the Stringing You Along technique from the brand new Technique Junkies Feb 09 newsletter...

Card measures 6 1/4" x 5"

STAMPS: I Brake For Stamps - Time To Stamp sheet, fleur de lis was a freebie :o)

INKS: Stampin' Up! Kiwi Kiss, Adirondack Mushroom, Staz-On Jet Black

SUPPLIES: smooth-topped adhesive-backed rhinestones (my new favorite bling!!), paper flowers, gingham ribbon, string, vellum, sponges, flat Glue Dots

TECHNIQUES: Technique Junkies Stringing You Along from the Feb 09 newsletter

NOTES: I just noticed this would be a great layout for using up atc-sized pieces ~ Staz-On works great anytime you want to stamp your words on vellum, which I love because it doesn't cover the bkgd completely - and speaking of the quote, in the photo it is striking me as too plain so I'm going to add tiny bling to both sides of the author's name like I have on the fleur de lis ~ the paper flowers are very dimensional in person so I use flat Glue Dots between each layer to make sure they aren't going anywhere ~ I totally took the color inspiration from the very reasonable bag of green, white, black and brown assorted flowers by Hero Arts - in real life they match perfectly and there is more difference between the green and brown - try to picture all the greens as more limey than olive...

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Eiffel Tower Top

I felt so guilty about not posting artwork in so long that it's just about 1 am and I just finished scanning a card that the ink is barely dry on ;o) Hope you like

(click for detail)
Card measures 5 1/2" square

The main panel is using one of the current TechniqueJunkies techniques called reinker splash. I used Distress inks and gold mixative, which is very, very faint, even irl. The image is the one my friend Cheri just gave me a few days ago (marked Eclectic Omnibus, which I believe is now out of business, but you can get this image on Plate #62 from the Frantic Stamper - just go to the Rubber Stamps category on the home page) and the word stamps are some unmounteds I bought at the used stamp sale over the weekend, and would love to know the manufacturer of them. For those panels I stamped the words in black Staz-on, the collage elements over in 2nd generation VersaMagic dewdrop Niagara Mist chalk ink, and used a sponge to edge them with Distress Old Paper. The postage elements are from the same sheet as the words, and the map is Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers, now out of the stamp business, but check with StampFrancisco.

On the dark background, I stamped the map of Paris and the Eiffel tower (unknown) in 2nd generation black Marvy ink. I used the jumbo Stampin' Up! Rough Texture wheel and white pigment ink to add some visual texture over this and tie in the main panel. The three black brads are a nice matte finish.

More Travel Souvenirs

All the stamps used on this card are from the same sheet used in yesterdays post, by
I Brake for Stamps on the Time to Stamp site (Travel ATC sheet).
I made the card and then saw this corner laying around and added it later, so you can see both versions below.

(Click for more detail)

Card measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

This card layout was inspired by a Sketch Challenge (#92) from an awesome online group I'm in - StampersCorner. The sketch called for one layered oval but I needed to make two, which is okay! LOL I always assume sketches are a great jumping-off point to help the imagination create something wonderful. The color scheme I was inspired to do by the awesome Knight art on Gerrie's blog currently.

I started my card by grabbing a background I had made earlier using one of the TechniqueJunkie techniques from the current newsletter - it's called Technicolor Dye Inks, and provides a soft washed-out feel which always looks so good with vintage images. I just used a regular circle punch to punch the corners for interest.

It's hard to see but there is some yellow in the center of the background and since I didn't want to use all pink tones, I stamped the portraits on pale yellow cs using a VersaMagic Malted Mauve dew drop inkpad. (These portraits are actually one stamp, with them side by side and surrounded by a borderline.) I stippled the same ink around the edges but it looked too blah, so I stippled Palette Burnt Umber in the same way and edged the ovals straight from the pad. I mounted these to ovals of textured dark wine cs.

The ovals are McGill Creativity punches and were my big splurge last fall as I paid full retail. That was before Nestabilities had entered my landscape - now they're on the wishlist. LOL Sizes are Stacking Oval 1 5/8" x 2 1/8" #95931 and Stacking Oval 1 15/16" x 2 7/16" #95930.

I ran the lighter strip thru the Cuttlebug with the Script folder and highlighted the letters with the chalk inkpad. The corner doodad is also a CB product, from the set of four dies called vintage (all of which my Dad generously bought for my Christmas present :o)

*tip*
Save all those decorative Kleenex boxes, etc. for these - they are semi-glossy and sturdy enough not to tear when you have to pull them off your Xyron sheet! Below are a beautifully marbled set to show how cool they look.

I stamped various images on the bkgd in Burnt Umber and then adhered everything as shown.

Sketch {008} Eiffel Tower

Here's a card for Gerrie ;o)

I got this sketch challenge from Erin's blog and had so much fun not having to think about a layout! These awesome stamps are all I Brake for Stamps from the Time to Stamp site(Travel ATC sheet).

Card measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

I stamped the Eiffel Tower in Versafine black ink on Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White. I stippled some black ink around the edges and then edged the panel straight from the pad for a distressed look. Using SU's True Thyme and Sahara Sand, I stamped the globe, words and receipt as shown.

I used a wide-set ribbon punch to punch just one slot along the edge and tied a couple ribbons on as shown. I adhered this to an olive panel and then a black panel.

For the background panel I stamped the map twice on a Sahara Sand panel, using True Thyme.

*tip*
If you stamp something twice and get a dark line where they meet, if the colors are neutral you can sometimes use a white rubber eraser to remove a little color without smearing the pattern.

I distressed the edges with the Tim Holtz distressing wheel and drew black lines using a Zig marker. The dots are matte-finish black brads. This panel was adhered to a black panel, and then to a white cardfront. The main panel was pop-dotted over this - irl this can really help a card not to look too "flat".

Paris Resist

Happy Saturday!
It's freezing cold here - with a - before the number! - so I plan to stay indoors and play catch-up. Since I'm a bit behind I pulled a card from the photo archives, made earlier this year. It was sent out as a rak at the time so is not available for the weekly drawing, but it involves some cool techniques so I hope you enjoy it anyhow :o)

The basis for all the colors in the card originated from this extra-wide grosgrain ribbon I had picked up in the Michael's $1 bin, and an intriguing group post that you could put your ribbon thru a printer for customized wording.

So I started by typing the words in a document style on my computer and then printing them landscape style on a sheet of cardstock. I lined the ribbon up on this cardstock directly over the words, taping both ends down as flat as possible, and ran it thru the printer again. And voila! LOL it worked better than I had hoped!

I made the top background piece by simply sponging dye inks onto glossy paper, and then stamping the Paris collage image (Hero Arts) over it repeatedly in Staz-On Stone Grey, lining up the edges.

*tip*
To get good color blending with no muddying of colors, consider using a pad like Kaleidocolor where all the colors are in the same family.

For the bottom panel, I used one of the inks from the top panel and stamped a Stampin' Up! background on off white cs, and then edged it with more ink and a sponge.

For the main image panel I stamped the Eiffel Tower stamp (Inkadinkado) on glossy cs with Versamark ink and then embossed it with white detail powder. Next I sponged some more of the same inks over it, let it sit for a minute and then wiped the color off the embossed area. I stamped the Bon Voyage text (Hero Arts, I think) over this in black Staz-On ink.

To put the card together, I layered as shown, pop-dotting the image. I punched a corner from the resist panel and added it to the bottom left corner. Looks complicated but actually pretty quick and easy.

Faux Travel Tag

This travel themed card features a faux tag. I've got a scan and a photo, to show you how the gold highlights glow irl.

Card measures 4 1/2" x 5 3/4"

I started by stamping the tag (Inkadinkado) in black ink on a piece of tan cs. I stamped the tag again on a large piece of copy paper, trimmed out the center and laid this over the tan cs, tacking it down with a piece of masking tape.

*tip*
Any time you want to use tape to temporarily tack your cs, take a fresh piece of tape, press it down lightly on your pants to get it slightly fuzzy and you won't risk tearing your cs when removing it.

Then I stamped the Italian postage stamp at an angle, and the postmark and cancelation over this (these stamps by Hero Arts, International Tour de Luxe set). Leaving the mask in place I chalked the images and the inside edge of the tag. Making another mask by stamping the postmark and stamp on small post-its and trimming around them, and tacking over the same images, I inked up the lettering stamp with Brilliance Galaxy Gold and stamped it as shown over the body of the tag. I took the masks off, highlighted the stamp border with a Marvy DecoColor Opaque Paint Marker Extra Fine in gold, and drew a shadow around the tag with a Tombo #530 grey marker. I freehand tore the cs around the shape of the stamped tag.

I stamped the vintage postmarks (Just For Fun) with Versamark on a rust colored panel, and then edged the panel with the gold ink, direct from the pad. Then I layered two strips of black cs edged with the Brilliance gold ink over it as shown. I trimmed one end to a squared off point, folded it over and tacked it down with an antique copper brad. I tucked the torn-edge panel under this, and then stamped Journey (Rubber Stampede) in the bottom corner with black ink.

The rust panel is layered on a brown panel, and that's layered onto a flecked light brown panel.

Acetate & Tissue World Map

Here's another Acetate and Tissue card.

Finished card measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

You can see how by changing the colors a bit you can get a whole different feel. For directions on this technique check week one's post. I left the glitter step off for a more antique-y feel.

The layout is very simple. The cardfront is black, then a layer of antique gold shimmer cs, then textured green with black ink sponged on the edges. I wrapped some black Magic Mesh around both corners - MM is self adhesive but not so sticky that you can't move it around. Over this is a black cs layer, then the acetate panel which I backed with white because it was too muddy otherwise. The image is by Inkadinkado.

IRL the blue in the ribbon matches the main image panel colors fine, but not so much in the scan. I'm not sure where I got the ship charm, but it was silvertone so I rubbed some gold metallic Rub-Ons onto it so it blended better. Under the ship is just a scrap of the same green cs as the layer, cut into tag shape, and edged with Brilliance Galaxy Gold. The word is from a travel quote by PSX.
